Villa Ridge Inn Subdivision Plat 1889
H.F. Smith's Subdivision Plat, dated April 25, 1889, shows the original plan for the Villa Ridge Inn property. In addition to the hotel, the subdivision included 12 building lots, which were eventually purchased by Mary Craig Lawton (Mrs. Henry Ware Lawton) for The Beeches. The residence and associated outbuildings on the plat were at one time owned by Charles Buck Cotton and then, after his bankruptcy, by Joseph Graham and Nannette Hite McCulloch.
Horace F. Smith was the brother of Louisville & Nashville Railroad President Milton Hannibal Smith, who spent summers in Pewee Valley. After the hotel bellied-up, it became the Kentucky Confederate Home.
