Antiquitates Peweeji by Noble Butler,  July 4, 1858

University of Louisville professor and textbook author Noble Butler wrote this fanciful creationist story of how Pewee Valley got its name on July 4, 1858. About a century later, financier Eleanor Sedley of Edgewood turned the tale into a Christmas card, saving it for future generations of Peweeans to enjoy. A copy of the card is on display at the Pewee Valley Museum.

The story was later turned into a play by the Little Colonel Players titled, "This Is the Way It Was," for the Pewee Valley Centennial Celebration in 1970.
