A Brief History of the Interurban by George Yater, Louisville Historian
George Yater was a Louisville journalist and trained historian who variously worked as an editor for a trade publication called The Insurance Field, a reporter and features writer for the Courier-Journal & Times, director of the Kentucky Department of Public Information's news bureau and editor of Louisville Magazine.
In 1979, he published his first book, "Two Hundred Years at the Falls of the Ohio: A History of Louisville and Jefferson County," and brought out a second edition in 1987. Later, Yater served as an advisor on the Louisville area for "The Kentucky Encyclopedia," published in 1992, and as an associate editor of "The Encyclopedia of Louisville," published in 2000. He had a special interest in trains and transportation. Today, a large collection of his papers reside at the University of Louisville Libraries Archives and Special Collections.
The typewritten pages below appear to have been written by him at the request of Katie S. Smith, while she was working on "Pewee Valley: Land of the Little Colonel," her 1974 history of Pewee Valley. Thanks to William and John Smith for providing this document to the Pewee Valley Historical Society.
