Videos from the June 5, 2010 Confederate Memorial Day Observation in Pewee Valley
On June 5, 2010, a visit to Pewee Valley by author Rusty Williams, who had just published "My Old Confederate Home: A Respectable Place for Civil War Veterans," prompted the Pewee Valley Historical Society to sponsor a special observance of Confederate Memorial Day at the Confederate Burying Ground in Pewee Valley Cemetery. The observance included:
- The 106th decoration of the graves at the cemetery with a keynote address by Williams;
- A photo exhibit of the Kentucky Orphan Brigade sponsored by the United Daughters of the Confederacy;
- An authentic Civil War lunch at the Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church, along with book signings by Rusty Williams;
- Showings of the Pewee Valley oral history project at Town Hall;
- Tours of Sunnyside/Edgewood;
- Tours of Confederate Hill, former site of the Kentucky Confederate Home, located about a mile away from the cemetery; and
- Louisville Dulcimer Society performance at the Little Colonel Playhouse.
Three videos featuring different aspects of the day-long event were produced by Louisville-based family history documentarian Leo Osborne, owner of LeoCast.com.
